Should College Athletes Be Paid? Millions of football fans all over the United States have pick on football games every Saturday—either it is Tennessee Volunteers or Florida Gators. It will be unfair to other students if college athletes get paid to play sports although most people will disagree. Many scholarships are granted to student athletes; colleges are for educational purposes; and of course it is not affordable for government to pay every athlete all over the United States. College athletes are getting better services than any other student. According to the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) website scholarships that are granted to student athletes cover tuition, fees, room and board, textbooks. Without those scholarships many students would not be able to chase their academic and athletic goals. Basically, they get more aid than other students get. The experience of playing in a team itself is more valuable and it is also a pride for athletes. In some way, college athletes already get paid; universities should never give more financial support to satisfy their athletes. Colleges are for education and academic purposes. It is a place where students get education and get prepared for their better future. If one is interested in playing sports and he/she is very good at it, then he/she should go in that field. “The majority of those polled identify themselves more as athletes than as students” (Sack 583-84). These days’ students considered them as more popular just by playing sports. Their way of thinking is changed and they became more selfish than other students just because they are more popular and they think they can do what they want to do so. It’s should be their choice, but it does not mean that they should be paid. Their ability to focus in education is already low, if they get paid then, it will be lower. If athletes can paid then
