WR122 March 18, 2012 Drug Testing Right or Wrong? Welfare today is one of the most widely used benefit plans by the government and today more than ever more people are in need of these benefits. There are always people though that abuses these programs and takes advantage of the help out there. The drug welfare reform bill is a good one because of its economic and tax benefits, in addition to the fact that, it will prevent citizens from abusing the system. In these difficult economic times, people are trying to save money and cut expenses that’s including the government. They will look at results the drug testing to see if there are savings in drug testing welfare recipients. According to the article right now, they will only being people that are on probation or have been convicted of a felony drug charge in the last five years. If a person fails the drug for first time it is a six month ban, second is a 12 month ban and third is a life time ban. "The intention here is to save taxpayer dollars and get rid of fraud, waste and abuse in a system that has a lot of fraud, waste and abuse in it," Tobash said. Even, though, there are some people that are out raged and call this unconstitutional for an example Kimberley Davis, Director of Social Services for Operation Breakthrough, said this sends a damaging message. "All this does is perpetuating the stereotype that low-income people are lazy, and if all they did was pick themselves up from the bootstraps then the country would not be in the mess it is in.” (Service)That is not true it is that tax payers work hard for their money. It should just be requirement same requirements as an employer and most employers do drug testing. Why should not that be so of applying for assistance? Ellen Brandom, a Republican state representative in Missouri, state that American tax payer’s work had for their livings and it are not fair that their tax dollars go to support illegal activities.” (Service)This is an extremely valid point each and every person that works contributes their tax dollars. It should be put to proper use for people that need that extra help to feed themselves or their families. It has been proven that it does save the taxpayers money but, there are still groups that are fighting the implication of bills like this. I do not see why they are fighting against drug testing so hard, it is their tax dollars too that support these federally funded
