While Victor had love from his family, he did not have love for the monster. The only time Victor felt compassion for the monster was before it came to life. The monster’s life was much different than Victor’s.
Neville always relied solely on science but his mind was so hopeful for companionship he overlooked his reasoning and let her inside his house. Ruth ended up being a new kind of mutated “vampire” which he knew could happen. The new kinds of vampires were able to walk in the sun. His overlooking of science cost him his life in the end. All of these situations are the result of his isolation and loneliness.
Sam had a few people in his life during his journey of parenthood on his own. He had his male friends who had disabilities themselves. These guys loved to give advice and support but where not able to advocate on behalf of Sam or give reliable, meaningful information to help Sam. Annie, who lives near Sam and is Lucy’s godparent was able to give advice, do the occasional babysitting and teach Lucy the piano but due to her own problems was not able to be a person to help Sam in many other ways. There was also Sam’s employer at the coffee shop who was just his employer and maybe not aware of what Sam was really facing in day to day life.
Grete’s Journal Entry 1 Dear Diary 6/13 Gregor is not the same brother I have always known. He is changing physically and I'm finding it hard to look at him anymore. When I see him, I don't see my brother but rather I'm starting to see nothing but an insect. He can't communicate with the family anymore. All that comes out from his mouth is this disgustingly cringing hissing sound that other bugs make.
His father was never the perfect parent. Quentin's ZOMBIES were never even close to perfect. But, that does not mean we must hide away all of our imperfections. Quentin hid his sexuality and carnal needs instead of going to someone to talk about them. His father merely became angry and burn Quentin's magazines and Ken-doll as to remove the images from his mind instead of trying to figure out why Quentin had them in the first place.
Roosevelt’s upbringing did and didn't make it easy for him to understand the concerns and fears of ordinary Americans. The worries and fears for ordinary American's were things such as 'am I going to lose my house', 'will I lose my job' and 'where is my next meal coming from'. Roosevelt's upbringing didn't help because he was an only child in a rich family . This didn't help because he was pampered by his mother and got everything he wanted. He was educated at home so he had no real idea of what life was like outside of his family which may of created an ignorance to what was going on around him.
Crooks character shows the importance of companionship by depicting how people with companions act compared to people without. Crooks didn’t have any companions so he was independent, somewhat reserved, and petulant towards the other workers on the ranch. When Lennie entered his room, he said: “You go on get outta my room. I ain’t wanted in the bunkhouse, and you ain’t wanted in my room.” It shows that Crooks desired to have a companion but he wanted Lennie to leave because he wanted Lennie to feel the way he did. The importance of companionship is shown by different characters in Of Mice and Men.
Candy has to deal with prejudice because he is old and he only has one hand. In the novel people would think that if someone cripple then he or she is useless. Carlson is a good example because he tells Candy to put down his dog because he is old and useless, this relates to Candy because he is also old and useless because he only has one hand. All the characters in “Of Mice and Men” struggle through the harsh realities of loneliness, isolation, prejudice, lack of friendship and the inability to build a secure financial for their future . Pony and Darry seem to have never gotten along ever since their parents died in a car accident. Sodapop is the only one that gets them both according to Pony. They fight over everything Pony does that does not meet Darry’s standards. Pony once said, “ Darry and I just don’t dig each other” (Hinton 13).
